Strategic Development and Management of Irrigation Systems For Sustainable Agricultural Productivity in Mesuji Regency

Abstract

The development and management of irrigation systems play a crucial role in improving agricultural productivity and achieving national food sovereignty. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of irrigation system management in Mesuji Regency from 2017-2022 and to design strategic policies for 2023-2026. Using qualitative descriptive methods, the research gathers data from interviews, literature reviews, and documentation analysis. The findings reveal that 61.92% of the irrigation network in Mesuji was in good condition, surpassing the 50% target. However, challenges such as limited human resources, poor irrigation management, and inadequate farmer participation hinder optimal outcomes. Strategies to enhance these areas are proposed to ensure sustainable agricultural productivity in Mesuji.
